Hannah Faith Notess I hear: God is Everywhere. And at once I learn that first, that strangest of truths‹the one I can come only so close to touching‹ the air around me is God-shaped. And how does God feel, squeezed like this in the openings and closings of my hands? I experiment‹push molecules of divine essence between clenched fists, elbows, knees Or, in case he likes it better, I shape avenues in the air, let God rush past me, rippling, making me a rock in His current. I lie on the floor spread-eagled, hands gloved out, stretching even my toes for God to pass in between. Hannah Faith Notess is currently working on her MFA in Creative Writing at Indiana University, where she also serves as an Associated Poetry Editor for the Indiana Review. She has poetry forthcoming in The Cresset, Image and The Christian Century. |
